Subject: New generations

How do you feel about the generations now that are growing up in Huddersfield, do you think its changed for them since you were growing up?

Yeah, of course.

How do you think its changed?

Well they've got a lot more freedom, because when I left school I had to really persuade my mum and dad to let me go to college, but now thats what its all about. Its about education; its about getting yourself out there, getting a good job. Parents now think of pushing a lot more, giving their kids the freedom to keep doing what they're doing. I think its changed massively.

Do you think that thats because they're embracing the British culture now?

Yeah, I do. Because, back in the day, you'd never have heard of an Indian girl wanting to get married to an English man, but now it does happen and it has been happening. Even one of my friends, who is Indian, will one day be getting married to an Englishman. If they didn't embrace it, I don't think that any of that would have been happening. I mean, there are still some that still hold back and say, "Oh no, no, no, you shouldn't do that", but I think its changed massively.
