Subject: Growing up in Huddersfield

How did you feel growing up in the 70s in Huddersfield? What was it like?

Well, we didn't, it was either school or home, school then come home, thats all it was, because mum and dad were working a lot, so my eldest brother had to look after me and I had to look after my youngest brother the majority of the time. When we used to come back from school, my dad would be waking up to work nights and mum was coming home at about sixish, so we were never left alone for more than 15 minutes. My mum's sister just lived down the road, so we were always there. We were quite free, we could play outside or in town if there was about four or five of us.
