Balwant Sandu
Balwant Sandu is one of the first migrants in Huddersfield who came in 1957. His father migrated to Huddersfield in the 1950's and Balwant remembers well the food rationing at the time. He worked for many years in Huddersfield's milling industry and talks about the many hurdles he had to overcome such as language, food, travel and even bath-times. Balwant is a member of the Indian Worker's Association and spends many afternoons in Springwood playing cards with other migrants who also came to Huddersfield in the 1960's.
